is not acceptable, but as single events should not in my opinion result in more than a "shut the fuck up" message.
As a consistent pattern it does warrant and require more drastic management action though. When a team members behavior start to impair the teams behavior then management need to step in and fix the problem.
For an employer ~ employee relation it is easy to take action. For a volunteer project ~ voluntary project contributor it can be more difficult to take action.
Based on the description it sounds like things were getting out on control in the Python dev team. And that action was taken.
