Original link: Oracle's Java pricing brews bitter taste, subscribers spill over to OpenJDK / TheRegister.
No surprise.
The new Oracle pricing scheme where companies pay by number of employees no mater whether they use Java or not raised the price (often by a factor 2-5!).
So now companies are switching to one of the many OpenJDK builds where companies can pick between free with limited support and more traditional pricing with better support.
A survey says that 14% plan on staying with Oracle Java and 86% plan on switching to an OpenJDK build.
(note that the company behind the survey Azul is one of the companies making money from offering paid support for OpenJDK)
