Ruby is somewhat niche. JRuby is niche within the niche.
But JRuby is kept reasonable uptodate and it is able to run RoR (Ruby on Rails). And now JRuby 10 is promised about same time with the sam feature set as MRI 3.4 (MRI is the standard C implementation).
