Original link: The Big (Easy) Java Migration / The Stack.
Oracle has changed Java licensing from per instance to per employee.
Since then a lot of customers has moved from Oracle Java to OpenJDK (Eclipse/Redhat/Amazon/Azul...).
Some just goes for free OpenJDK. Some want OpenJDK with support. Azul is pretty big in the OpenJDK with support market. Especially in the financial sector.
An Azul survey showed 14% sticking with Oracle Java, 25% had switched to OpenJDK, 20% are in the process of switching to OpenJDK and 41% are plannings witching.
The articles give an example of a bank that switched over the weekend.
(I am not so impressed by their support of Java 6 and 7 - Java 6 is from 2006 and Java 7 is from 2011 - anyone on Java 6 or 7 should upgrade.
