The hypothesis is that AI may make code writing faster, but that the code quality is decreasing. There are some data to support the hypothesis. And it seems very plausible.
If asked to provide some functionality the AI may provide a code snippet copied from elsewhere in the code. But suggesting that code snippet was moved to a library and used both from the original location and by the new code is very much different.
