Slavery was a horrific concept. But it has been gone for many years.
And I see two problems with this reparations idea.
First problem is that there has been many horrific things im the last 5000 years of history. It does not seem fair to only mandate repations for slavery and not for anything else. But reparations for all horrific things would mean practically everybody owes everybody.
Second problem is about who should pay to who. There are no slave owners and previous slaves alive. Rich West paying to poor Africa? That would be some descendants of slave owners + some descendants of slaves + a lot not descendants of either paying to descendants of those that caught free people and sold them as slaves to the slave traders - that does not seem like justice to me.
