On the surface the west is way ahead:

  1. US : 921
  2. Germany + UK + France + Italy + Poland : 107 + 94 + 70 + 40 + 33 = 344
  3. China : 251
  4. Russia : 186
  5. Japan + South Korea + Australia : 59 + 44 + 37 = 140
  6. India : 78
  7. Saudi Arabia : 73
  8. Israel : 40
But the numbers are deceiving. Having a soldier is way more expensive in the west than in the east. Western equipment is typical way more expensive than eastern equipment.
