The Java memory model introduced in Java 1.5 (2004) is very relevenat.
It is obviiusly very relevant for Java developers needing to write any type of multi-threaded code.
But it is also relevant for developers using other languages. The problem that need to be solved are the same. And almost all languages that has introduced a formal memory model after 2004 has used the Java one as inspiration (even though not always ending up with an identical solution).
