Obviously no surprise that a PHP advocate say that PHP is still relevant.
But I think he has a valid point. PHP is not hot. In fact PHP has not been hot for 20 years. But it is still widely used. Because it does what it is intended for. Server side rending web application in an relative easy language.
And it is not just small web sites. FaceBook (*), Slack, WikiPedia and WordPress.com are huge web sites.
*) FaceBook use Hack but that is a PHP clone.
