JetBrains Kotlin team and Spring team has will cooperate more closely in the future.
It makes perfect sense to me. They need each other.
Kotlin has huge success in Android development but has not really caught on in the server world yet (I think it would be great there as well, but status is as it is).
Spring is huge in server side Java (Spring is most used DI framework, Spring Boot is most used micro-service framework, Spring MVC is most used SSR web framework and top 3 web service framework), but the company behind it Pivotal is now part of Broadcom and nobody knows how commited Broadcom is to that business segment.
