OpenAI may be valued at 500 B$ currently. But it is not due to generated profit today.
Model training 3 B$, model running 4 B$, people 1.5 B$, other 0.5 B$ - total cost 9 B$.
2.8 B$ revenue from ChatGPT subscriptions, 1.2 B$ revenue from API subscriptions - total revenue 4 B$.
Loss 5 B$.
The valuation indicate an expectation of OpenAI being able to turn an annual loss of 5 B$ into an annual profit of 25 B$. That is a challenging task!!
