Original link: Intel terminates x86S initiative — unilateral quest to de-bloat x86 instruction set comes to an end / TomsHardware.
Intel is dropping the x86S plans.
x86S is 64 bit app/64 bit OS and 32 bit app/64 bit OS only without support for 32 bit app/32 bit OS, 16 bit app/32 bit OS and 16 bit app/16 bit OS.
It is expected that the new "x86 Ecosystem Advisory Group" will pick up the idea and do something.
